  4. Walking dogs
  5. Pet sitting
  6. Doing admin for small companies
  7. Online surveys

  14. Become a virtual assistant
  15. Learn a skill or use your talents: make-up and do this for matric dances, weddings, photo shoots
  16. House sit

These are all AWESOME ideas to generate more money.
But, there are two other great ways to make yourself some additional income, and they DID NOT come up at all!

They are:

*Having your own blog
*Forex trading/ Cryptocurrency/ Investing

To make REAL money in forex/ crypto trading, you need to have money to begin with.

If you learn to trade yourself, start off with a small account until you get better, but if you want to make large amounts, you do need to have a good amount to invest. And to be safe, if you are starting out, you actually should set up at least one account to auto-trade. This will copy a professional trader. If he or she wins, you win. If he or she loses, you lose.

But a second way to make money from home is to start a blog. Yes yes, in South Africa, a lot of people seem to think it’s only for writers, or people who want to journal, or people who just want to do something. But if you did not know, you can actually make money from having a blog, enough money to replace your income, or even double your income.

And it’s much easier to set up then you think.

So how do you make money with a blog?

Firstly lets look at what a blog is.

A blog is a simply platform on the the www where you create ‘posts’ or mini-stories about a certain topic that other people can read.

But – nothing comes without a bit of effort so you will need to put effort in to see results.

The trick with having a successful blog is to blog about something you absolutely love. People can tell the difference between a genuinely passionate person, and a fake. Be genuine and it will be fun. Fun brings you readers. Readers become your target market.

Your blog will attract the kind of person who is interested in the same type of thing and who will follow you – and that is what you want.

At the bottom of this post you will find a fab download with some ideas of blog niche ideas as well as a couple of post ideas to get your mind ticking away.

So while you are thinking about what your blog is going to be about, carry on reading to see five different ways that you are actually able to make money from your blog.

Ready? Let’s go!

1. Affiliate Marketing

One of the quickest ways that a blogger can make money is by becoming an affiliate marketer.

This is a great way to earn money as you do not have to purchase any stock of your own and are not putting your money at risk.

Essentially, affiliate marketing is when you join other programs and tell your blogging audience about this great product and how and why they should buy it. When they buy it, you will earn a commission.

You first need to figure out who your target audience is. There is no point trying to sell puppy training leashes online when you are targeting people with dogs. You need to niche down and specify that you are targeting people with puppies between the ages of 6 – 8 weeks for example.

What you do is join up with companies relevant to your specific niche and promote their products to your blogging audience.
The company will send you a special link and then you earn a commission every time someone purchases something through your special link!

How do you find these companies? Google of course.

Let’s say your niche is puppies. Go to Google and type in ‘affiliate marketing + puppies’ and you will get a number of options.

You would then click through from these links and apply with these companies to become an affiliate marketer for them. This is done usually by completing an online form and it doesn’t cost you anything.

Make sure that you read the rules of the affiliate company and once you have submitted your request to join their affiliate marketing team, it usually takes less than 24 hours for you to get a response.

Remember, they want you to sell their products for them. They make money – you make money. It is a win-win situation.

Here are some other affiliate programs that you can join to start earning your commission:

> Clickbank
> ShareaSale
> Commission Junction
> MarketHealth

In South Africa:
> Netflorist
> Mantality
> Bid or Buy

Oh yes, and don’t forget to join Amazon’s amazing affiliate program too. The great thing about Amazon is that once people click through from your link, you will get commission on EVERYTHING that a person puts into their basket and buys, not only the item that you are promoting.

So for example, if you are promoting a chew toy for puppies, and someone clicks on your link to buy that toy and while they are there they also buy a dog basket, a lead and a food bowl, you will get the commission on all of these items. Fantastic!

2. Create and Sell Your Own Products

If you have any special skills or passions (think: baking, sewing, make-up, handyman etc) – then you can create these products and use your blog to sell them.

Then take it one step further and create a course or an e-book based on your product and sell this online. For example, if you have a vegan blog, you can create and sell a recipe book.

The great thing about creating your own products is that this can generate a fantastic passive income for you. Put in the hours and hard-work now to create a fantastic product and have it generate money for you from today onwards.

You can also put it out there for other people to sell for you and they earn an affiliate commission! See how its all working?

Think of these ideas:

  1. Online craft classes
    2. E-books or courses
    3. Get abs easily in 30 days
    4. Super nutrious smoothies
    5. How to grow your own veggie garden
    6. Learn to play guitar
    7. How to set up a weekly/ monthly food budget
    8. Bird-watching Course
    9. Learn to work with chocolate
    10. How to ‘baby-proof’ your house

These are just some ideas of products and courses you can create, sell them online without every leaving your home if you want, and generate yourself an income.

3. Adverts

Ads are a passive way for you to make money but you do need to have people coming to your blog to earn money from this so generating an income this way will take a bit longer, depending again on how much time and effort you put into your blog.

You can easily set up banners and advertisements and you maintain the control of this; but as I said, you do need quite a bit of traffic to make money this way.

Once you are getting a few thousand visitors (numbers vary per company), you can apply to the following ad companies:

1. Mediavine
2. Google Ads
3. Sovrn
4. AdThrive

If you want to control exactly which adverts go onto your blog, you can also reach out to companies who you would like to advertise on your blog and work out an arrangement with them.

Depending on the traffic your blog is receiving, you can charge anything from approximately $50.00 per month upwards.

4. Sponsored Posts

Many companies will pay bloggers to write posts about their products or services. This also requires a large number of people coming to your blog because the sponsor wants to make sure that their product is being seen by a lot of people. This is called brand collaboration.

One way to grow and attract brands is to grow your social media following. Even if you don’t have a following yet, select one of the platforms that you know or are happy to learn and master, start posting and growing your audience. Some brands will only require you to have a couple of thousand followers, some more, some less. A good target is around 10, 000 but you can strike up deals if you have smaller audiences.

Brands want to see that you have engagement with your audience and that they trust you and would be likely to purchase a product that you recommend. Some brands might not pay you but they might send you free products to advertise for them. If this is the case, you could speak to them about earning an affiliate commission for any sales made through your advertising and recommendations.

You could also use these products as a prize in a competition to grow your email list.

5. Services

Here you can offer out your services and get paid to do so. You will set up your blog, gain traffic and grow your email list and then you can start offering out your services, most likely in addition to one or more of the above income earners. Here are a five suggestions but this list is endless:

  1. Become a VA (virtual assistant)
  2. Freelance blogging services
  3. Teach English as a foreign language
  4. Virtual Party Planner
  5. Social Media Management

So as you can see there is more than one way to make money from your blog. You might not know right now what the best way will be for you to make money online – or something might have jumped right out and is screaming at you! I suggest that you grab your partner or best friend and have a serious brain-storming session. See what comes out of it. What gets your creative juices flowing? But wait….you actually need a blog to do all of the above but you don’t have one yet. Not to worry – I will help you.

Starting a blog is a very good way to make money and it’s not just for people who want to have an ‘online’ journal. I have set up easy-to-follow instructions on how to do this.  If you get stuck at all, you are welcome to contact me.
